Let's remember that this growth is achieved thanks to the tourist sector and therefore remains fragile.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In return, the government has committed to reducing <a href=\"https:\/\/vivreauportugalconsulting.com\/en\/5902-revision-v1\/\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">small business tax<\/span><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2020 Budget Proposal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In his <a href=\"https:\/\/eco.sapo.pt\/topico\/orcamento-do-estado-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"project (opens in a new tab)\">project<\/a> of the 2020 budget, the socialist government projects a surplus representing 0.2% of gross domestic product (GDP), compared with a deficit of 0.1% expected at the end of 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This will give an extra push to reduce the country's debt, one of the largest in the eurozone. Portugal's debt-to-GDP ratio is expected to fall to 116.2% in 2020 from 118.9% this year, according to the budget forecast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:23px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The minority government of Antonio Costa, which won a second term last October, hopes to achieve economic growth of 1.9% next year, identical to that of 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The government plans to ease the tax burden on the middle class by introducing new middle tax brackets and additional subsidies for large families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Small businesses are the big winners <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>SMEs with annual taxable profits of <strong>less than 25,000 euros<\/strong> will see their tax at <strong>drop to 17%<\/strong> against <strong>21% currently<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In return, taxes on tobacco, lotteries and high-sugar drinks will increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>The government plans to increase the average salary in the public service by 0.3% and 800 million euros will be injected to reduce the debt of the health sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Parliament will vote on the first reading of the draft budget on January 10.
