You're about to sign a permanent contract in Portugal. When you work abroad for a long period, by definition this means you no longer pay contributions in France. You will therefore be covered by the Portuguese pension scheme. So it's important to find out all you can about this system.
Portugal is bound by a social security agreement with France. Franceyour quarters spent abroad will be validated to determine the length of your career. Please note, however, that salaries received during this period will not be taken into account in calculating your retirement France.
However, to overcome this problem, you can join the Caisse des Français de l'Étranger (CFE), if your employer has not already done so. The CFE allows you to count quarters contributed abroad as if you were in France.
WARNING: This will not exempt you from paying pension contributions in Portugal, but will simply allow you to increase the amount of your French pension.
Even if you decide not to pay CFE contributions, you can buy back your expatriation periods before you retire. A quarter bought back at age 60 will cost you between €3,275 and €6,472, depending on your income level and the option you choose.
