TOURISM BOOMS IN NORTHERN PORTUGAL

In 2017, Portugal broke records in terms of tourist numbers and revenue. It welcomed over 23M tourists and 50M passengers at its airports. While the share of revenue directly linked to tourism in GDP reached 7.1 %.

Growth on the rise in 2018

L’Institut National des Statistiques (INE) portugais vient d’annoncer. Que la région Nord du Portugal aurait connu en 2018 une croissance en terme touristique qui est le double de la moyenne nationale.

Les bénéfices auraient été de 12 à 12, 5% si on  prend en compte, particulièrement les nuitées alors qu’au niveau national ces mêmes chiffres étaient de 6% à 6,5%. Cela s’explique, en particulier, par le fait que la région était davantage méconnue jusqu’à présent. Les marchés dits “extérieurs” ont, eux, représenté en 2018 une part de 71%, alors que dans la même période, cette part était de 56,1% pour les non-résidents.
