Portugal will be under lockdown from midnight tonight, for a minimum period of 1 month. Enabling the government to monitor the progress of the pandemic and adapt containment measures.
Portugal confined, business aid available
As in March 2020, non-essential shops and businesses will be closed, with only so-called essential shops and businesses and schools remaining open. The government has already announced that a support plan will be put in place to help businesses, employees and social managers.
Business assistance available during containment
The country is now under lockdown due to Covid-19, and below you'll find a non-exhaustive list of the aid available to support businesses forced to close. We will, of course, keep you informed of any changes as soon as possible.
- Companies that have to close because of the new restrictions will be able to access the simplified redundancy scheme, which allows exemption from TSU.
- The non-refundable support program (the ceiling should be raised)
- Help for a gradual return to work
- Increased support for self-employed workers and social managers
Also present at the press conference, the Minister of Labor, Solidarity and Social Security, Ana Mendes Godinho, explained that in the case of "self-employed workers, managing partners and domestic service workers" who have to suspend their activity, the aid that was in force in April and May will be reactivated, an exceptional measure that will only be in force "as long as the containment measures last".
